Our CHW Apprenticeship Program provides over 140 hours of training in core skills and health topics over four months. Through our partnership with Chabot College, apprentices earn 12 college credits (and can earn an additional CHW certificate by taking three more courses if desired.) After completing the apprenticeship, AHPI staff assist with job placement so graduates can continue gaining real-world experience. This experience helps apprentices reach the 2,000 hours needed to qualify for a California state CHW certification, opening up even more career opportunities in community health!
Benefits
Our program offers paid training from day one, giving you valuable hands-on experience while you work alongside trusted health centers in the community. You’ll build real skills, earn your CHW certification, and gain on-the-job experience that sets you up for success. With employment opportunities for up to 2,000 hours through our employer partners, you’ll have the chance to grow your career and meet California state certification requirements!
Eligibility
We encourage individuals of all ages to apply, with priority given to applicants between 18 and 24. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a strong interest in building a meaningful CHW career after completing the apprenticeship.
